Project notes#

Notes gives a project a small free-text record of context that does not belong in a dataset name or point table. Useful notes include the source or reference, experimental conditions, assumptions made while reading the graph, a digitisation method, or a reminder about uncertainty and provenance.

Edit notes#

When an image or project is open, select Notes in the header. The Project notes dialog contains one free-text field.

• Select Apply to store the edited text in the current project.
• Select Cancel, press Escape, or click the dialog backdrop to close without applying the draft.

Applying changed notes is a persistent project edit and contributes to the unsaved-change indicator. Cancelling does not alter the stored notes. The Notes action is unavailable in the empty welcome state because there is no project content to annotate.

Save and restore#

Project notes are saved inside the .graphx project file and are restored when that project is opened. Older project files without notes open with an empty note.

Save the project after applying notes if you want the new text to remain in the downloaded working file. See Saving and opening projects for the save workflow.

Notes in exports#

When non-empty, notes appear as a PROJECT NOTES section in a PDF report. GraphX wraps the text and allows the section to continue onto another page when necessary. Empty notes are omitted from the report.

Notes are project context, not numerical data: they are not included in CSV output, copied TSV data, or JPEG image export. For the full report structure, see PDF reports.
